WORLDS.COM SIGNS AGREEMENT TO CREATE MAJOR THREE DIMENSIONAL (3-D) INTERNET WORLD FOR
WORLD CHAMPION NEW YORK YANKEES OFFICIAL WEB SITE
Worlds.com and Yankees.com, a Major Sports Web Site, Team Up to Create the First Major Sports Team 3-D Virtual Online Community, NYYankeesWORLD.COM
Boston, Mass. September 21, 1999 - Worlds.com, formerly Worlds Inc. (OTC:WDDD; www.worlds.com), a leader in three-dimensional (3D) Internet technology and content, today announced that it had signed an agreement to create and host NYYankeesWorld.com, the first real 3D virtual online world ever created for a major sports team.
The Agreement was made with UltraStar Internet Services LLC ('UltraStar') that holds the internet rights to www.Yankees.com, the Official Web Site of the 1998 World Champion New York Yankees. The Agreement calls for revenue sharing between Worlds.com and UltraStar relating to advertising, sponsorships and VIP membership fees.
According to Robert Goodale, President of UltraStar, "Yankees.com is a very heavily trafficked sports web site on the Internet and, according to recent statistics, attracts thousands of user sessions and over 25,000 page views per day. We are thrilled to be working on this collaborative effort to create a 3D virtual community for fans of the New York Yankees."
The NYYankeesWorld.com that will be created and hosted by Worlds.com for inclusion on Yankees.com will consist of two parts. The first will be a free version that all New York Yankee fans will be able to get and download directly from the Yankees.com Internet site.
Once the initial very small download is completed, it will place the Yankee fan right in the middle of Yankee Stadium. Once inside Yankee Stadium, Yankee fans will discover an expansion to the existing Stadium has occurred. Fans will see an avatar gallery which will permit them to select who they will be and how they will look in virtual Yankee Stadium.
Through his or her avatar character, the Yankee fan, using the arrow key on the computer, will be able to walk around and meet and communicate with other Yankee fans from all over the world. Communication can take place through Internet text chat or Worlds.com's internally developed voice-to-voice chat.
Yankee fans will also be able to download other portions of YankeesWorld, including Monument Park which is located in left center field at Yankee Stadium and includes plaques dedicated to the memories of Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig, Joe DiMaggio, and Mickey Mantle, among others. Other downloadable worlds will include other facets of Yankee Stadium, including the VIP only club which many Yankees' fans will be able to enter for the very first time through the avatar character they choose to be.
The second phase of the Agreement calls for Worlds.com to create a more extensive virtual world for Yankees.com to be included as a separate world on a CD that Worlds.com will produce and manufacture. The CD will include all the elements available on the downloadable version, but because it is on a CD, the installation onto the hard drive of a user's computer will occur in a matter of seconds versus the download which will require several minutes for each of the various worlds. The CD will be available for sale at the Worlds.com web site, as well as through select retail outlets.
Worlds.com has also just begun discussions with companies which might wish to be sponsors and/or advertisers on NYYankeesWorld.com.
